The Lighthouse

A change to my routine can really throw me off balance. Extra pressure at work, a busier schedule, or travel (even though I love to travel) can sometimes make me feel unsettled and scattered.

When I’m feeling like this, I find focusing on very small adjustments helps me to regain my balance. Here’s an example from a time when I was traveling for work.

Ordinarily, I run over my lunch break. I didn’t have that option while on my work trip, so I adapted my routine to run first thing in the morning. Next to my hotel was a lovely riverside path, with a lighthouse situated at the end.

I love lighthouses! What a difference carrying this image made for me. I felt calm and grounded throughout the day.

It’s nice to be reminded again, as I was by this lighthouse, that adapting and responding to a change is often exactly what you need to stay on course.
